Power is being restored to PG&E customers in Hayward and Union City at this hour after a transformer explosion knocked out electricity to 7,000 homes and businesses — including the South Hayward BART station.
The lights went out at around 7:00 p.m. this evening, forcing motorists to stop at dimmed traffic signals and BART to shutter the South Hayward station
MORE PHOTOS:
BART said the station will remain closed until early tomorrow morning when they hope power is fully restored. A bus bridge has been set up to shuttle passengers between South Hayward and Union City stations.
Trains were bypassing the South Hayward BART station all evening long.
For many transbay riders off-boarding, it was another kink in a busy commute day with the unexpected closure of the Bay Bridge for emergency repairs.
