Grab your lipstick and find a partner, just as long as he or she is of the same gender. Why you may ask? Tomorrow, April 15th, is Same Sex Kiss Day and a chance for the LGBT community to come out and be completely open about who they are.
Same Sex Kiss Day calls for couples to go to a neighborhood Starbucks coffee shop and during one (or all, if you wish) of four designated times throughout the day, exchange a kiss with your same sex partner or friend. The set times are at 7:15 am, 12:15 pm, 5:15 pm, and 8:15 pm.
Why Starbucks? Well according to the Same Sex Kiss Day website, “Starbucks has been committed to LGBT rights since the beginning of time offering domestic partnership insurance, quoting gay artists on their coffee cups, and funding our gay pride parades.”
But what is Same Sex Kiss Day going to accomplish. According to the event website, people who are afraid of and don’t support gay rights “don’t know us and they’re not used to us.” Thus by sharing a same sex kiss in public and being completely open about who they are will allow those people to see that gays are no different from them except in who they choose to love.
So tomorrow, go on down to Starbucks and share a kiss with your fellow man or woman.
