Despite an economic downturn, the final weekend before Christmas was quite busy in San Francisco, at least activity-wise it was. On Friday night, the annual lighted boat parade wowed those who braved the chilly weather along the Aquatic Park pier and Marina Green to see yachts and other private vessels sail by. At Ghirardelli Square, carolers sang Christmas hymns in front of the Christmas tree there. Down at Union Square in San Francisco, the ice rink was full of skaters zipping past spectators on the sidelines. Shoppers flooded the nearby Macy’s store and crowded window-fronts to see the San Francisco SPCA’s kittens and puppies up for adoption this holiday season.
