Friday Evening Update: BREAKING NEWS: Fleet Week Parade of Ships canceled – Navy ships delayed by rough seas
Friday Afternoon Update: Photograph of the Blue Angels taken around 3:00 p.m. from Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill. The ear-splitting roar of the Angels got the attention of nearly everyone on city streets today in preparation for the weekend’s festivities. Along the Marina Green, tents and seating have been laid out, Navy recruiters have their fighter-jet simulation unit out, and signs along the Embarcadero are already warning of delays because of all the people anticipated to be out there. Trying to find parking this afternoon in the Marina District was next to impossible – you’re strongly advised to utilize public transportation to and from the events.
Beat Military writer Roy Morlidge tells us that these following ships are expected to sail into the Bay tomorrow as part of the 11:30 a.m. Parade of Ships:
- USS Pinckney
- USS Bonhomme Richard
- CGC Bertholf
- SS Jeremiah O’Brien
He also reminds us of the music venue taking place at Pier 39 and the Italian Herritage Day Parade taking place on Sunday.
